CE Marking

In the European Union СЕ marking (CE Mark) is introduced in terms of legislation (Commission Regulation, Decision No. 768/2008/EC). Application of the CE mark on products enables free movement of products in the single European market. CE marking is not a quality seal, but only a mark that determines that the product meets the minimum requirements of the harmonized legislation of the EU and EFTA member states – Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein. CE marking does not define the place of production, but indicates that the product is properly evaluated and meets the safety requirements, thereby satisfying the requirements of the agreed legislation.

CE marking is applied on products prior to placing on the domestic market of the Union.

CE marking does not extend to food, medicines, cosmetic products, packaging and other products to which other Directives, Regulations and Decisions apply.

Illegal application of the CE mark on products is prosecuted in the EU member states. If the regulatory authorities find a product with illegal CE marking, the product is removed from the market, administrative or criminal sanction may occur, depending on the risks posed by the product.

Directives on matters of safety, health and environment, identify hazards that the manufacturer shall detect and eliminate. Manufacturer marking its product with the CE mark declares that the product meets the requirements of all relevant Directives.

To mark the product with the CE mark, the manufacturer shall carry out the assessment procedure for conformity with the relevant Directives of the European Union.

CE Mark is mandatory for certain products produced not only in the EU, but also in third countries and sold in the Union.
