The French Directorate-General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control warns consumers about possible violations of the requirements for products intended to come into contact with foodstuffs under Regulation 1935/2004.

The French Directorate-General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control, in order to ensure consumer safety, warns:

Whether you are a professional or a consumer, only use tableware and containers specifically designed for food preparation or storage, which can be identified by the corresponding pictogram. Otherwise, you risk compromising the quality of the products and endangering consumers.

Follow the instructions for use. Do not reuse disposable tableware. Do not place food in a container that is not designed for use in the oven.

Be careful with items that can be inscribed or painted on, such as mugs. Avoid printing or engraving on areas that come into contact with the lips or food.

Beware of misleading claims about materials that may misrepresent their characteristics (e.g., ‘natural’ material that is actually plastic).

Read the instructions for use (maximum temperature, reusability, microwave suitability, etc.) on the product or its packaging when purchasing, and keep them for future reference.

Do not use aluminium foil in contact with acidic foods (e.g. lemon) when cooking papillotes in the oven; this causes acidic foods to mix with high temperatures and may cause aluminium to migrate into food.

Carefully read the instructions for use of the cling film, in particular the information on its suitability for use in microwave ovens and possible contact with fatty foods (oil, margarine, etc.).

Do not cook or reheat food directly in the packaging unless permitted by the instructions for use (and do not reheat food directly in multi-layer cardboard/aluminium boxes).

Never use containers and receptacles that are not originally intended for contact with food (buckets, boxes, etc.) provided by their suppliers.

Avoid contact between food and materials and objects not intended for this purpose (tables, tablecloths, etc.). intended to come into contact with foodstuffs under Regulation 1935/2004.
