Decision (EU) 2026/1372 authorising the opening of negotiations between the EU and South Korea on the mutual recognition of conformity assessments, certificates and markings has been published in the Official Journal EU.

17.06.2026
Decision (EU) 2026/1372 authorising the opening of negotiations between the EU and South Korea on the mutual recognition of conformity assessments, certificates and markings has been published in the Official Journal EU.

The compliance of exported products, such as electronics and chemicals, with EU requirements is largely based on this agreement, supplementary rules and companies’ own CE marking processes.

The agreement has eliminated customs duties on almost all goods. It facilitates and harmonises trade in sectors such as:

  • Motor vehicles and spare parts
  • Pharmaceuticals and medical devices
  • Chemical products
  • Electronics and mechanical engineering

If a South Korean company wishes to bring its products to the EU market, the products must comply with all applicable EU directives and regulations.

In turn, the European Union exports significant volumes of engineering products, motor vehicles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and high-tech electronics to South Korea. In addition, exports include food products such as meat and dairy products, as well as various industrial components and consumer goods.

In this regard, the Council has decided to authorise the opening of negotiations on an agreement between the European Union and the Korea on mutual recognition of conformity assessments, certificates and markings.

This decision is of great significance for trade between the two sides, reducing export costs for manufacturers and the administrative burden on regulatory authorities.
