Compliance with Directive 2009/48/EC can be demonstrated by harmonised standards.

Most electrical toys, including radio-controlled toys, are covered by the Toy Safety Directive.

In addition to the Toy Safety Directive, there are twelve standards in the EN 71 and EN 62115 series that contain detailed requirements, in particular for the structure, chemical composition, flammability and labelling of toys. They also contain precise instructions on how to test the safety of toys. The purpose of the common standards is, among other things, to facilitate the production of compliant products.

Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU, Directive 2014/30 on electromagnetic compatibility, Directive 2014/35/EU on low-voltage equipment directly concern radio-controlled and electric toys, which in turn fall under the requirements of Directive 2009/48/EU on toy safety.

Electric toys are also subject to the requirements of the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, and Regulation (EU) No 1907/2006.

Before toys are placed on the market, the basic safety and labelling requirements must be taken into account.

The relevant safety requirements, as well as labelling and instructions, must be taken into account before toys are placed on the market.

Toys are not considered dangerous to health or property if they comply with harmonised standards.
